Birthday Money Haul

Last weekend I had some birthday money to spend so I hit the shops! Lets see what I bought...

Hair

Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Deep Nourishing Intensive Mask
I like using an intensive conditioner on my hair a few times a week and this was on offer for a few quid so I thought I'd try this. It smells of coconut which is lovely.

Tangle Teezer
I've wanted to try a Tangle Teezer for ages but I was being a cheapskate and didn't want to pay £10.99 for it in case it wasn't very good. Since I had my birthday money I decided just to treat myself.

Skin

MAC Mineralize Charged Water Moisture Eye Cream
I've been after a new eye cream and I was going to buy a Kiehls one but this one seemed to catch my eye in Fenwicks. I think it's due to the sparkly packaging. Unfortunately my camera hasn't picked up the sparkle very well! This is from the Heavenly Skin collection.

Montagne Jeunesse Very Berry Face Mask
I absolutely love Montagne Jeunesse face masks. They are really cheap but have some great natural ingredients and always make a difference to my skin. I definitely see better results with these compared with the Lush face masks.

Makeup

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser SPF20 in Porcelain
I totally didn't mean to buy this. I just got carried away in Fenwicks Beauty Hall! Anna always raves about this on her blog so I've wanted it for a while but it's pretty expensive at £33.00. I swatched a little on my hand for the first time and decided to go for it, well it was my birthday wasn't it?!

MAC Select Cover-Up Concealer in NW15
I bought a Stila concealer last month but I haven't been very impressed with it. It's certainly not worth £18! I'd been thinking about trying this MAC one for a while so decided to get it and see what I think.

MAC Lipstick in Hue
This is a popular blogger lipstick and I'm always swatching it at the MAC counter so again, I decided to just go for it! It was quite an impulsive shopping trip really!

Topshop Lip Stick in Coy
I hadn't tried these before but had often admired the colour and I love all my other Topshop makeup so I had to eventually own this. I seem to be buying far too many lip products at the moment. Maybe it's because I've filled up my nail polish storage so I've developed a new obsession!

So that was my haul, hope you enjoyed it :) Let me know what you've been buying lately.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable in Cherish and Darling

It was my birthday last week so I asked for a few of the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains whilst choosing a perfume from my Fiancé in Boots. I went for Cherish - a lovely pink colour and Darling - a pretty lavender shade.

The product is like a giant crayon and applies a glossy, sheer layer of colour on the lips. They are really easy to use and the colour is easily buildable. From comparing the two shades I got, the pink one (Cherish) seems to be slightly more pigmented but as you can see, you can still get a good amount of colour from them.

There is an unusual minty scent to these balms but I really like that. They don't dry your lips out either so they get a massive thumbs up from me. I'm tempted to buy another now...

Cherish

Darling

There are seven shades available in the UK and if you're quick you can catch them on offer in Boots and Superdrug for £5.99 rather than £7.99.

Hand swatches - top: Cherish, bottom: Darling.

Do you own any of these? Which colour is your favourite?

P.S - I'm currently running a giveaway where you can win one of these in the shade Cherish, along with some other makeup bits so please check it out here.

17 Peep Show Mascara

17 Peep Show Mascara was one of the prizes I won in a 17 Cosmetics Twitter party earlier in the year but I only got round to using it a few weeks ago.

To be honest, I didn't think this mascara would be very good after several months of using Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme. I was certainly proved wrong though!

This mascara does a great job at lengthening and separating your lashes. I really like the brush as it contains lots of bristles all the way round so it coats every lash.

No mascara
After applying 17 Peep Show Mascara in Black
You can pile on a few coats of this mascara without your lashes feeling crispy and clumped together.

Occasionally I've had some fall out from the mascara, probably due to the "lengthening fibres" but other than that it's been pretty amazing.

Have you tried this mascara? Do you have any other high street/drugstore recommendations?

Montagne Jeunesse Clay Spa Face Masks

Today I wanted to tell you about a new range of face masks by Montagne Jeunesse. It's the "Clay Spa" face mask range consisting of two fabric masks called Glacial Clay Spa and Dead Sea Mud Spa.

"Unlike any other masque, Clay Spas are created with world's first technology - special sourced clays are cleverly infused into natural bamboo fabric, creating a completely new and never seen before type of face masque that makes cleansing better, quicker and easier than ever before"
Montagne Jeunesse

First of all I wanted to say that the application and removal of these masks is great as regular clay masks can be quite messy! You just slip the mask out of the packet and the fabric is completely soaked with the clay. It doesn't drip all over either so once you've pressed the fabric onto your skin you can just sit and relax for 15 minutes.

Once it was time to remove the masks, I found they hadn't dried fully on my skin so I didn't have that uncomfortable, tight (and cracked) feeling you can sometimes get so all I had to do was massage the remaining product around my face and rinse off. Simples!

As with all Montagne Jeunesse masks, these are packed with some amazing natural ingredients such as mud, clay, dead sea, sea kelp, cloudberries and red grape.

I found that with the Glacial Clay Spa mask, my skin felt so cool with it on. It actually felt like someone was blowing cold air onto it! It left my skin feeling super fresh and clean.

The Dead Sea Mud Spa didn't have the same "cool air" feeling but it felt really cleansing and left my skin feeling smooth and hydrated.

These masks don't have a fruity or sweet scent, they just smell clean and fresh so I think they would be great for men too. Obviously I'm not saying men can't use fruity/sweet scented ones though!

In fact these masks are suitable for everyone as all Montagne Jeunesse products are vegetarian-approved and paraben free. Montagne Jeunesse is proud of its uncompromising natural credentials and ethos for ‘Conservation of Energy, Protection of Animals and the Environment.’

Montagne Jeunesse Clay Spas are £1.49 and available now from www.montagnejeunesse.com. They will be hitting the shelves in Boots from mid August and ASDA from September.

Hope you enjoyed my review. Thanks for reading :)

Suzy

These masks were kindly sent by Montagne Jeunesse for review purposes. My opinion is in no way influenced by this and I am always 100% honest.

MAC Cut A Caper Lipstick

Yesterday I made a purchase from the Heavenly Creature collection at MAC - the beautiful Cut a Caper lipstick. I did fancy the Pleasureseeker lipstick as well but decided just to get one lipstick in the end.

Cut a Caper is in the Lustre formula and I find it leaves a sheer, glossy finish on the lips. It's easy to build the colour up for a more intense look if you prefer.

MAC describe this lipstick as a midtone peachy pink which I agree with. I didn't have a colour like this in my collection so I'm glad I bought it. It's quite an easy colour to wear as it's not too bright for a nice daytime look.

Have you bought anything from the Heavenly Creature collection? I thought the skinfinishes and blushers looked so cool!

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream

I 'like' Maybelline on Facebook and I noticed a few weeks ago they were giving away samples of their Dream Fresh BB Cream. They are only giving away the light shade but that's fine for me so I ordered my samples straight away.

You get three samples of the BB cream which I think is very generous and it means you can try it for three days before deciding whether to purchase the full size or not.

I thought I'd pop on a picture of me without anything on my skin so you can see the difference when I have used the BB cream. So I have redness around my nose, various other areas of uneven skintone along with some lovely spots on my chin!

Maybelline claim this BB cream has 8 different benefits for the skin but lets see the actual results on me below.

First of all, I liked the light feeling this has on your skin. It doesn't feel like you're wearing any makeup which must be due to the "water-based gel formula". My face also felt really soft like velvet. I think this evened out my skintone and made it look more healthy without turning my face orange! If you look around my nose it has definitely blurred the redness too.

I didn't think it had done a great job of concealing my spots but looking back at these photos there is a slight improvement with the BB cream on but it obviously doesn't provide full coverage. With a bit of concealer I'm sure they would look even better. I found this to give a dewy look to the skin but if you prefer the matte look you could apply a light dusting of powder over the top.

I haven't worn this outside but the fact that it contains SPF 30 is amazing. My skin burns really easily so this is a massive positive for me.

If you are thinking about trying this BB cream I definitely recommend requesting a sample as I think it's pretty good. If you would like a sample go to the Maybelline Facebook page

June Favourites

Before this post, I hadn't done a "favourites" post for a while. I think I was stuck in a rut using a lot of the same products so I didn't have much to write about. I had a lot of new favourites in June though so read on to find out more...

Champneys Shower Cream
I've been loving these shower creams over the last few weeks. They are quite expensive at £8.00 each but I think they are worth it, especially if you can grab them on a 3 for 2 deal. You only need a small amount to produce a lovely thick lather. They smell gorgeous and leave your skin feeling soft.

Garnier Hand Cream SOS Repair
This hand cream was pretty cheap, I only paid a few pounds for it but it's one of the best I've ever tried. It's for dry to extra dry hands so it's very hydrating and the best part is that it doesn't leave your hands feeling greasy. It soaks in pretty fast and you can feel the moisture returning to your parched hands!

Nuxe Toning Lotion
I bought this toner during my trip to Paris in May as I was looking to try a few new products. I'd used around 3 or 4 bottles of Elemis toner in a row before this so I thought it was time for a change. This is very gentle on the skin since it's alcohol free and contains soothing ingredients such as rose, witch hazel and chamomile. It leaves my skin feeling fresh and well prepared for my moisturiser.

Bourjois Magic Nail Polish Remover
This is a clever little product. I hate using regular nail polish remover with cotton pads to remove nail polish, it feels like such a chore! Things have changed now I have this magic little pot. It makes removing nail polish a quick and simple job. It's not great at removing glitter polish but regular polish melts away in seconds with this beauty. It even leaves a nice scent on your nails.

DKNY Sweet Delicious Pink Macaroon
I purchased this right before my trip to Paris as I fancied a new scent to take away with me and it had a bit of a French theme to it! This smells so nice, it's really sweet and girly. I wore it pretty much every day in June which is unusual for me as I like to wear a range of scents throughout the week so I don't get bored.

Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm
I'd heard a lot about this lip balm on various beauty blogs so when I saw it in Paris I had to have it. This is such a great lip balm as it really nourishes the lips. It has a honey and citrus aroma when you put it on and it's a paste like consistency. It looks quite matte on the lips too. I've used it nearly every day since I got it and I've barely scratched the surface so even though it's a bit more expensive than you might normally pay for lip balm, it's going to last a long time.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye
I went back to using my sample of this since I felt like my Origins GinZing wasn't really doing much for me. I prefer a thicker cream so I've been looking around for alternatives whilst using up this sample. I've actually been using it in the morning before applying concealer and I find makeup goes on a lot easier on top of this. It's very moisturing and you only need a tiny bit for both eyes so this one also lasts a long time.

Topshop Nail Polish in Flamingo Coral
This nail polish is fab for the summer. It's a pretty colour, a great price and has a good formula that applies well to the nails. Big thumbs up from me!

Topshop Cream Blush in Head Over Heels
I own two Topshop Cream Blushes and they are both lovely. They are easy to blend into the cheeks for a lovely pop of colour. I loved wearing this peachy coral shade in June.

No7 Sheer Temptation Lipstick in Appeal
These lipsticks were a great discovery in June. They are like Revlon Lip Butters in the way that they are a lipstick/balm but these are super glossy! I wore this one on a night out with the Head Over Heels blush and Flamingo Coral nail polish. Loving orange/peach/coral at the moment. If you want to see some lip swatches of the No7 Sheer Temptation Lipsticks see here.

MAC Lipstick in Watch Me Simmer
I don't normally wear proper lipstick on a night out as I've never felt very confident about it. I bit the bullet (no pun intended) in June and went for something bold. I wore this lipstick and actually felt more confident than usual! The formula of this lipstick is great as it's very pigmented, glides on easily and stays on for a few hours before needing a top up. It's not drying on the lips either.

Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector
I finally caved in to this lip balm as I'd heard lots of good things about it. I'm certainly glad I did as I love it. It's a gorgeous sheer peach that adds gloss to the lips without stickiness. The sponge applicator is great too. It's a perfect daytime gloss/balm.

Clarins HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase
I missed this out of the main photo by mistake but this is actually my number one favourite for June! I love using my Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair before I go to bed and decided I wanted a daytime serum. This one caught my eye and with the lure of a free gift, I went for it! This serum is AMAZING! It's a lot thinner than I expected as I'm used to the fairly thick Estee Lauder ANR. This is inbetween water and an oil so when you pump some out you have to be fast otherwise it drips all over! You only need one pump of this to cover your face and neck so I can see this lasting a very long time. Immediately after patting this into the skin, your face feels like silk! It does a brilliant job at rehydrating the skin. Sometimes I get a few dry patches around my face, mainly on the end of my nose and on my cheeks but I haven't had any since using this. I highly recommend this product.

Well that's it for my June favourites, hope you enjoyed this post :) Please feel free to send links to your favourites as I'd love to see them.

NOTD - Models Own and No7 Combo

I was looking through my nail polishes last night and stumbled across Models Own Indian Ocean still with it's cellophane wrapper on! Oops! I decided I must use it straight away so I didn't forget about it again.

I remembered reading about it a while back and bloggers mentioned layering it over another polish as it's quite see-through. I went with this advice and decided to use No7 Stay Perfect nail polish in Minty Fresh as a base coat. Ideally I should have used two layers as this is not the most opaque polish either but I was too impatient and left it at one. I then painted one layer of Models Own in Indian Ocean over the top. As you can see, my nail tips are still visible under these two coats but I didn't mind too much.

Indian Ocean is so beautiful. I love the two toned effect in lilac and baby blue. It has a gorgeous shimmer to it as well. I couldn't stop looking at my nails at work today!

What nail polish combos have you been trying out lately?

Models Own HedKandi NOTD

My local Boots finally had Models Own Ibiza Mix in stock! Yay! There was a buy one get one half price deal on all Models Own makeup so I picked up a second HedKandi polish. I went for the shade Hedonist.

As with all Models Own polishes, these are fab quality and Hedonist was opaque in one coat. Hedonist has a matte finish which I'm not used to but it didn't matter since I was adding Ibiza Mix as a top coat.

Hedonist is a beautiful red-orange colour. My camera is picking up more of the orange but I'd definitely say it's more red than orange.

I love how Ibiza Mix has small and large foil pieces in various shades of blue, gold and baby pink. It's very pretty. Next time I use it, I think I will try it alone but build up several layers.

What nail polishes have you been wearing lately?
